The Clackamas County Health Centers Division has one full-time temporary Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) position who will join our team of health care professionals dedicated to the physical and mental well-being of students. Our four School Based Health Centers (SBHCs) are located within the Oregon City School District at Oregon City High School; North Clackamas School District at Rex Putnam High School in Milwaukie, and two new clinics that opened this past school year in the North Clackamas School District at Clackamas High School and Adrienne C. Nelson High School in Happy Valley.

A position in School Based Health Centers will give you the opportunity to work with a special segment of the community in a school-based clinic setting. CMAs in the SBHC program work as part of an integrated team to assists providers and clinicians in the delivery of quality patient care. Duties include: patient visit preparation, collecting and preparing specimens for testing, performing routine diagnostic tests, administering injections, assisting with procedures and sterilizing equipment. Other duties include but are not limited to; reception work, performing clerical support functions, collecting and processing medical records, and school collaboration and outreach.

Role & Responsibilities

PATIENT PREPARATION AND ASSISTANCE

  • Greet and instruct patients on visit process
  • Prepare patient for provider by taking vital signs, and anthropometric information
  • Record appropriate objective and subjective health information
  • Set up exam room and labs with appropriate supplies and equipment and assist provider with delegated tasks.
  • Work with providers and other staff to create and maintain an effective patient flow

LABORATORY TASKS

  • Give directions to clients regarding specimen collection and lab procedures to be performed as indicated by provider; perform phlebotomy.
  • Collect specimens, prepares, processes and transports them to appropriate areas of the lab using sterile and sanitary techniques.
  • Perform routine diagnostic tests and records results.
  • Participate in established quality assurance and quality control processes.
  • Record routine lab results in medical record or on laboratory logs.
  • Clean, stock and maintain supplies in exam and laboratories.
  • Clean and maintain lab equipment, medical supplies using sanitary and sterile techniques and the use of an autoclave.
  • Assist medical staff with inventory control procedures of vaccines, medications, supplies and equipment.
  • Inventory and order medical supplies and materials.

OTHER TASKS

  • Perform clinic-focused support tasks such as front office reception and registration, placing or returning telephone calls, data entry, processing referrals.
  • Assist patients with appointments
  • Assist in activities such as compiling data and preparing reports to support grant obligations and clinic processes analyses.
  • Collaboration with school staff to facilitate access for patient appointments
  • Participate in outreach activities that focus on increasing student access to SBHCs.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Current certification/registration as a Medical Assistant by a nationally recognized program.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) Certificate (Must be current prior to first workday).
  • Experience in primary family care and/or pediatric care clinic.
  • Must pass a post-offer, pre-employment drug test. Learn more about the County’s drug testing policy
  • Must pass a criminal history check which may include national or state fingerprint record check
  • Driving may be necessary for County business. For position(s) with occasional/incidental driving, incumbents must possess a valid driver’s license. 
    Accommodation requests for an acceptable alternative method of transportation will be reviewed on an individual basis in compliance with State and Federal legislation.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in primary family care and/or pediatric care clinic
  • Experience with administering vaccinations and/or injections
  • Experience with phlebotomy

Schedule

This is a temporary position, designated to cover staff vacation and sick time, for a minimum of 30 hours per week, up to 40 hours per week, based on business need.

Our clinic hours are 8 a.m. – 4:30 p.m. Monday – Friday on days school/clinic is open during the year. This position is utilized to cover prescheduled staff vacancies and as well as same day sick/daily call outs, and will assist our permanent staff, across all four SBHCs. When school is closed, you may be asked to work in our primary care clinics where hours may vary according to need.
